ANKARA (AA) - China has told the U.S. that mutual respect and cooperation will be beneficial for both sides during a meeting in Beijing between officials of the two sides, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told a visiting U.S. trade delegation to “view China's development and bilateral trade ties with an open mind” and work with China towards the “same direction”, the report added.
Beijing and Washington are engaged in an intense tariff war, however, officials from both sides are holding regular dialogue for some time to diffuse the tensions.
Wang met the trade delegation led by U.S. Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President Myron Brilliant on Tuesday besides former high-level U.S. government officials.
"Mutual respect and cooperation of mutual benefits is not only the right choice for us but also the common hope of the international community," Wang told the delegation.
Chinese Vice Premier Liu He is set to visit the U.S. this week to continue the talks.
"Consider China's development as an opportunity for the United States, which will be conducive to fundamentally solving some problems between the two countries," Xinhua quoted Wang as telling the U.S. delegation.
