ISTANBUL (AA) – Emphasizing secure cyberspace, China’s President Xi Jinping called for using the internet to improve the livelihood of people.
Addressing the World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit in northern Zhejiang province, Xi urged letting the internet “better benefit people of all countries.”
Stressing the need to improve public access to information-based services, he called for bridging the digital divide and building a more peaceful, equal, inclusive, and secure cyberspace.
The Chinese president, however, emphasized the need to “respect cyber sovereignty and each country’s way of internet governance,” read a transcript of Xi's speech released on state media.
Urging data security and personal information protection, Xi said those seeking hegemony, bloc confrontation, and arms race in cyberspace must be opposed.
