ANKARA (AA) – Chinese swimmer Zhang Yufei broke an Olympic record and won a gold medal in the Tokyo 2020 women's 200-meter butterfly on Thursday.
Yufei, 23, established the record in 2 minutes, 3.86 seconds, ahead of Americans Regan Smith and Hali Flickinger.
Smith was 1.44 seconds behind Yufei to take silver, while Flickinger was awarded with bronze.
China's Jiao Liuyang was the previous record holder. The 29-year-old had broken it with a time of 2.04.06 in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
