Chinese fighter jet crashes in southern China

No casualties, damage reported, probe underway

ISTANBUL (AA) – A fighter jet crashed in an unpopulated area in southern China on Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. local time (0530GMT) in Lingao County, Hainan Province, during a training exercise, Global Times reported, citing a statement from the Chinese Army’s Navy.

The jet belonged to the Southern Theater Navy, which is a formation of the People's Liberation Army Navy.

No casualties or damage on the ground were reported as the pilot(s) ejected safely.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, according to the report.
