China's military on Friday said that People's Liberation Army (PLA) will never be absent or hesitant in fighting "Taiwan independence and promoting national unification."
In a statement, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesperson Senior Col. Wu Qian said that PLA will decide whether and when to conduct military exercises in accordance with the needs and the situation on the ground.
"Whether there is a military exercise or not, the PLA will never be absent or hesitant in fighting 'Taiwan independence' and promoting national reunification. Any attempt to split the nation through soliciting external support or resorting to force will be punished and doomed to fail," Wu said.
His statement comes after Taipei on Monday said China imposed airspace restrictions until Wednesday over waters on its eastern side.
It claimed that China deployed the largest naval fleet in waters surrounding the island since 1996.
Beijing has neither confirmed nor denied Chinese military held the drills.
