Chinese plane catches fire, 9 injured during Singapore landing

Runway 3 at Changi Airport will undergo temporary closure, which might impact flight operations

ISTANBUL (AA) – During the evacuation of Air China Flight CA403, nine passengers sustained minor injuries, including smoke inhalation and minor abrasions, Changi Airport announced late on Sunday.

Air China released a statement indicating that Flight CA403, carrying 146 passengers and nine crew members from Chengdu in Southwest China's Sichuan Province to Singapore, encountered smoke inside the cabin before its landing at Singapore's Changi Airport on Sunday.

Changi Airport reported that the aircraft experienced smoke in the forward cargo hold and lavatory just before landing at around 4:15 pm (00.15GMT), adding that all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, Global Times reported.

The incident's cause is currently under investigation.

It also announced that Air China and the airport are providing assistance to all passengers and crew members affected.

As a result of the incident, Runway 3 at Changi Airport will undergo a temporary closure, which might impact flight operations.
