The Colombian ambassador hailed strong ties with Türkiye during the South American country's 214th Independence Day celebrations in Ankara on Friday.

"On behalf of our embassy, our staff, my wife, and myself, I thank everyone here for joining us. This is a testament to the friendship and affection towards our country and Colombians," Julio Anibal Riano said at the event.

He acknowledged the presence of guests, including officials from the Turkish Foreign Ministry and members of both the Colombian and Turkish communities.

"Our greetings and respect go beyond diplomatic formalities, reflecting our government’s brotherly sentiments towards our Turkish friends," he said. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1959.

Riano said Colombia is Türkiye’s second-largest trade partner in Latin America, while Türkiye is Colombia’s fifth-largest.

He celebrated the growing presence of Colombian coffee in Türkiye, saying: "The aroma and taste of our coffee allow the Turkish people to appreciate its virtues and the spirit it represents."

Turkish Foreign Ministry's director general for the Americas, Yaprak Balkan, for her part, expressed joy in joining the celebrations. "On behalf of the Republic of Türkiye, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of Colombia," she said.

Balkan highlighted the successes of Türkiye’s proactive Latin America and Caribbean outreach policy.

"Our friendship and cooperation, based on mutual trust, have led to robust relations in trade, technology, defense, and culture," she said.

Balkan also reiterated the commitment to enhancing high-level visits and engagements.
