Colombia’s coronavirus death toll crosses 120,000 mark

Fatalities increase to 120,432 with new 306 deaths in last 24 hours, Health Ministry says

BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - The death toll in Colombia from the coronavirus surpassed 120,000, according to Health Ministry on Friday.

The number of people who have died increased to 120,432 with 306 new fatalities in the last 24 hours, it said.

The country reported 9,462 new cases, increasing the number of infections to more than 4.7 million, while 9,872 people recovered, taking that tally to an excess of 4.5 million.

Among places most affected, two areas stand out: the capital of Bogota with more than 1.4 million cases and the province of Antioquia with over 712,000 infections.

More than 14.6 million people have received their first dose of the vaccine while over 9.4 million got second doses, according to the latest statement from the ministry as part of a mass vaccination campaign.

Colombia, with a population of around 50 million, is ranked ninth in the number of cases in the world.
