NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) - Comoros President Azali Assoumani was slightly injured in a knife attack on Friday, local media reported.
A lone assailant approached the president and stabbed him with a knife, according to the daily Habari Za Comores.
Security personnel swiftly intervened and apprehended the attacker, it added.
"Head of State of the Union of the Comoros was stabbed while he was in the town of Salimani Itsandra on the occasion of the death of a close friend of the Mufti of the Republic. His life is not in danger," according to the daily.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and the attacker, whose identity has not been released, is currently in police custody, and investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
