WASHINGTON (AA) - Dozens of conservative activist leaders on Friday urged the US Congress to support a clean continuing resolution (CR) to avert a government shutdown.

"Conservatives support President (Donald) Trump’s efforts to streamline and rebuild a federal government that works for the American people." they said in a statement,

As the March 14 funding deadline approaches, at least 70 signatories including J. Kenneth Blackwell, chair of the Conservative Action Project, said they support Trump in his efforts to pass the resolution that would fund the government at current levels for the remainder of fiscal year 2025.

US House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson on Thursday told the reporters that the House may hold a vote on Tuesday on the bill to fund the government through Sept. 30.

"I believe we’ll pass it along party lines, but I think every Democrat should vote for the CR," he said.

The bill would need to clear the 60-vote Senate threshold, before it could be sent to Trump for signature.
