ANKARA (AA) - With 1,024 new infections in Nigeria of the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, total countrywide cases reached 100,087 on Monday, according to figures by the country's disease control body.
In its latest update, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said 80,030 people recovered from the virus, while 1,358 fatalities were recorded in the West African country's 36 states and Federal Capital Territory.
"The COVID-19 pandemic is not over, but the availability of vaccines will bring us closer to controlling the acute phase of this pandemic," noted the NCDC.
It added that the country's National Primary Healthcare Development Agency is working to ensure easy and fair distribution of COVID-19 vaccines in Nigeria.
"Every vaccine has occasional side effects, but the benefits by far outweigh harm. No other single intervention has saved more lives than the vaccine," NCDC Director-General Chikwe Ihekweazu was quoted as saying.
