Coronavirus death toll rises in Sudan, Libya

Pandemic has claimed over 538,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since last December

ISTANBUL (AA) – Health authorities in Sudan and Libya confirmed additional fatalities due to the novel coronavirus on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Sudanese Health Ministry said eight more people died from COVID-19, while 127 more infections were registered.

The country’s count now stands at 9,894 cases, including 616 deaths and 899 recoveries.

In Libya, the government's National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) recorded two deaths, 71 new cases and eight recoveries.

In a statement, the NCDC said the new figures bring the tally to 1,117 cases, including 34 deaths and 269 recoveries.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed over 538,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since originating in Wuhan, China last December.

More than 11.63 million cases have been reported around the world so far, with recoveries exceeding 6.31 million, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.
