COVID-19: Nigeria records 2 new deaths, 138 infections

Tally rises to 53,865 cases, including 1,013 deaths and 41,513 recoveries

ANKARA (AA) - Two more virus-linked deaths and 138 new COVID-19 infections were recorded in Nigeria in the past 24 hours, authorities said Monday.

Till date, 53,865 cases have been confirmed, including 41,513 recoveries and 1,013 deaths in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said in its latest update.

With 18,188 infections, the commercial capital Lagos remains Nigeria’s worst-hit city. It is followed by the FCT, which includes the capital Abuja, with 5,156 cases, and the southwestern Oyo State with 3,118 cases.

The pandemic has claimed more than 846,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since originating in Wuhan, China last December, according to the latest figures by Johns Hopkins University.

Over 25.2 million cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 16.6 million.

The US, Brazil and India currently have the highest number of virus infections.
