JAKARTA (AA) - Indonesia on Sunday announced 12 more deaths due to the novel coronavirus, raising the total to 114.

Government spokesman Achmad Yurianto said the number of positive cases increased by 130, reaching 1,285 people.

"The number of recovered patients increased by five people. So, the total became 64 people," said Yuri.

After first appearing in Wuhan, China, in December, the virus, officially known as COVID-19, has spread to at least 177 countries and regions, according to data compiled by U.S.-based Johns Hopkins University.

The data shows nearly 680,000 cases have been reported worldwide since last December, with the death toll above 31,700 and over 145,600 recoveries.

Despite the rising number of cases, a vast majority of those infected with the virus suffer mild symptoms and recover.
