Crystal Palace played to an unexpected 2-2 draw against Manchester City in an English Premier League match Saturday, thanks to an injury time penalty.

Man City led the first half 2-0 at Etihad Stadium, with goals from England midfielder Jack Grealish and 19-year-old defender Rico Lewis.

Pep Guardiola's side seemed to be on their way to a home win but Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta scored in the 76th minute from the six-yard box to narrow the gap.

In stoppage time, Crystal Palace leveled the match. French winger Michael Olise successfully converted a penalty to upset Man City, who were without their injured star Erling Haaland.

So, the points were shared at Etihad.

Fourth-place Man City have 34 points in 17 matches in the Premier League led by Liverpool, who have 37 points and a game in hand.

Hosts Liverpool will play Manchester United on Sunday at Anfield.

Manchester City will soon travel to Saudi Arabia for the FIFA Club World Cup as the English team will take on Japan's Urawa Reds in a semifinal match in Jeddah on Dec. 19.

Man City will have two matches in Jeddah. Following the Urawa Reds fixture, they will play either a final or third-place match.

Guardiola's side will visit Everton on Dec. 27 after returning from Saudi Arabia.
