BAGHDAD, Iraq (AA) - The Daesh terror group, also known as ISIS, attacked the pro-government Hashd al-Shaabi militia in Iraq, local media reported late on Friday.
An attack against the 12th Brigade of the Hashd al-Shaabi in the town of Tarmiyah near the capital Baghdad reportedly claimed the lives of several people, including the deputy commander of the brigade.
The Iraqi government and Hashd al-Shaabi have not yet made any statement on the attack.
In 2017, Iraq declared victory over Daesh/ISIS by reclaiming all of its territory -- about a third of the country’s area -- invaded by the terror group in 2014.
But, the terror group still maintains sleeper cells in the country and periodically launches attacks.
