ISTANBUL (AA) – The Defense Industry Executive Committee discussed the future goals of the Turkish defense industry and made several decisions related to new missiles, strengthening air defense systems, and developing satellite and space systems, the Turkish Communications Directorate said on Wednesday.
The Defense Industry Executive Committee met at the Presidential Complex in Ankara under the chairmanship of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The meeting made decisions on the design phase of the Aircraft Carrier within the scope of military ship projects, the construction of the MILGEM 9-10-11-12th ships, offshore patrol ships, new types of landing ships, a new generation mine hunting ship, and a national assault boat, said the statement posted on X.
Projects to add new ones to the UAVs/ UCAVs inventory, provide them with new capabilities, and ensure their logistic supportability were discussed and decided, it added.
"The future activities of the National Combat Aircraft KAAN, the procurement of HURKUS aircraft and GOKBEY helicopters, and the logistic requirements of the airborne early warning and control aircraft were discussed and necessary decisions were made."
It added that the decisions were taken on a wide range of projects such as new missiles, radars, electronic warfare, various weapons, ammunition and equipment, air defense systems, and satellite and space systems.
Defense exports reached a record level of $5.5 billion, up 27% from the previous year, and the number of exporting countries increased from 176 to more than 185, it added.
