ROME (AA) – A technical glitch on railways in and around Rome caused the suspension of suburban and intercity train services Wednesday, causing delays and frustration.
The malfunction started at 6.30 a.m. local time (0430GMT), severely impacting rail traffic in the capital, Italian authorities said.
Numerous delays and cancellations were reported on both suburban routes and high-speed lines connecting Rome with the cities of Naples, Milan, and Turin.
Italian State Railways announced that train operations in central Rome were halted due to a failure to connect Rome Termini, the city’s main train station, and the Rome Tiburtina station.
At Termini, frequent delay alerts appeared on the boards, and many passengers were affected by the disruptions.
Long lines formed at ticket counters as frustrated travelers sought refunds.
