Delegations arriving in India for G-20 summit

Capital New Delhi set to host 2-day G-20 leaders' summit under theme 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'

NEW DELHI (AA) - Heads of delegations continued to arrive in India's capital New Delhi on Thursday for the G-20 summit, which will be held on Sept. 9-10.

Term president India is set to host the two-day summit under the theme "One Earth, One Family, One Future." During the summit, the G-20 leaders will exchange views in three sessions.

At its core, the G-20 is an intergovernmental forum primarily concerned with economic issues and comprised of the world’s 20 largest economies – 19 countries and the European Union. It plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues.

The member states are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the UK and the US.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel were separately welcomed by Indian officials.

Besides the members, term president India also invited leaders of Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Egypt, Mauritius, Oman, Singapore, Spain and the United Arab Emirates to the summit.

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the first head of delegation to arrive in New Delhi for the summit.

The Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, was also welcomed by the Indian delegation.

In addition to international organizations such as the UN, International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, India also invited members of the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the Asian Development Bank as guest international organizations.

Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) Secretary-General Mathias Cormann, IMF Managing Director and Chairman Kristalina Georgieva and World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala also arrived in New Delhi.

The term president is responsible for bringing together the G-20 agenda in consultation with other members and in response to developments in the global economy.

India holds the presidency of the G-20 from Dec. 1, 2022 to Nov. 30, 2023.

Brazil will assume the G-20 presidency in 2024 and South Africa will take over in 2025.
