ANKARA (AA) – Denmark on Tuesday called on India to influence Russia to end the war on Ukraine, Indian media reported.
“My message is very clear that Putin has got to stop this war and end the killings. I, of course, hope that India will influence Russia in this discussion,” said Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen during her meeting with Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in Copenhagen, according to Indian daily The Tribune.
Modi, for his part, said: "We appealed for an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine and return to dialogue and diplomacy for resolving the crisis.”
The two leaders also discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including cooperation in green energy, to boost the bilateral relationship, according to the daily.
At least 3,153 civilians have been killed and 3,316 others injured in Ukraine since the war with Russia began on Feb. 24, according to UN estimates. The true toll is feared to be much higher.
More than 5.6 million people have fled to other countries, with some 7.7 million people internally displaced, data from the UN refugee agency shows.
