ANKARA (AA) – Citing cases of severe or fatal blood clots, Denmark on Thursday temporarily halted use of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca.
A Danish Health and Medicines Authority statement said that reports of blood clots in people who have been vaccinated are also being investigated by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
After a 14-day suspension of use of the AstraZeneca vaccine, health authorities will issue a new assessment, it said.
On the “possible serious side effect” of blood clots, Danish Health Minister Magnus Heunicke said on Twitter that it is too early “to conclude whether there is a connection,” stressing the need for a thorough investigation.
