ANKARA (AA) - Croatian tennis player Marin Cilic on Wednesday bowed out from the 2023 Australian Open due to an injury.
"Not a great start to 2023 and few tough days in Melbourne. Devastated I can't play this year at Australian Open but health comes first," Cilic wrote on Twitter. "See you next year Melbourne!"
Last week, Cilic, 34 withdrew from his quarterfinal clash against eventual champion Tallon Griekspoor at the Tata Open Maharashtra due to a knee injury.
The 2018 Australian Open finalist bagged the 2013 US Open men's singles title, and also won a silver medal in men's double at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Several other notable players including Naomi Osaka, Venus Williams and Carlos Alcaraz, will also miss the tournament scheduled for Jan. 19-29.
