ANKARA (AA) - Officials should work to prevent forest fires from breaking out instead of just trying to put out blazes and curb casualties and material damage, according to a Turkish forest engineer.
Preventing forest fires should be the main strategy, addressing human-caused ignition sources and the impact of climate change impact, he said. Around 90% of fires result from human activities, often due to urban expansion into forests.
To combat this, experts advise risk reduction, evacuation planning, and awareness efforts. Well-equipped fire departments with trained personnel are crucial for effective fire control and community protection.
