5th day of Lebanon-Israel cease-fire deal
The fifth day of a cease-fire agreement between Lebanon and Hezbollah, which halted over 14 months of fighting between the Israeli army and Hezbollah.
On Saturday, the Israeli military committed 23 violations of the cease-fire agreement, bringing the total number of violations to 61.
The Israeli violations varied between artillery shelling, airstrikes, drone activity, drone overflights, gunfire from machine guns, incursions, road bulldozing, setting fire to vehicles, and crushing them.
An Israeli drone flew over Beirut and its southern suburbs on Saturday evening for the first time since the cease-fire took effect on Nov. 27.
These violations on Saturday resulted in the deaths of two people and the injury of six others.
For its part, the Israeli military announced in a statement that it attacked four targets in southern and deep inside Lebanon, claiming they "pose a threat" to Israel.
Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza
In its second year, the ongoing Israeli genocidal war in the Gaza Strip continues to claim the lives of more Palestinians and worsen their living conditions.
On Saturday, 20 Palestinians were killed in two Israeli airstrikes targeting a house and a vehicle in Gaza City and Khan Younis in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
As part of its targeting of international organizations in the area, Israel killed five Palestinians, including three workers from World Central Kitchen organization, in an airstrike that targeted a vehicle northeast of Khan Younis.
Israel’s escalating blockade, ground invasion in northern Gaza Strip
Israel's more than a month-long incursion and bombardment of northern Gaza Strip have exacerbated shortages of food, water, fuel, and medicine, leaving most of the population there on the verge of imminent famine.
On Saturday, Israel killed more than 40 Palestinians in an airstrike targeting the al-Araj family's house in Jabalia, according to Gaza's Civil Defense.
Al-Awda Hospital also announced the death of a 10-year-old Palestinian child due to a lack of oxygen and medical supplies, amid the ongoing Israeli siege and extermination campaign.
The number of Palestinian Civil Defense personnel killed since Oct. 7, 2023, has risen to 88, after one of its members was killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted civilian homes in Jabalia refugee camp.
The number of journalists killed in the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7 has reached 191, following the killing of Mamdouh Kaneetah, a journalist and editor at Al-Aqsa TV channel.
West Bank raids
Almost daily Israeli military raids on Palestinian cities and towns in the occupied West Bank, and illegal settlers' violence against Palestinians and their properties.
On Saturday evening, four Palestinians were injured, three of them by Israeli army gunfire, during an Israeli raid on several towns south of Nablus, in the northern occupied West Bank.
Israel has killed nearly 800 people since October last year, including 160 children, and injured nearly 6,600 others, with more than 11,800 taken into custody.
Gulf Cooperation Council summit
The 45th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit to be held in Kuwait on Sunday, with delegations from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Oman.
As of Saturday evening, it has been confirmed that Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will attend the summit, along with UAE Vice President Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, who will head Oman’s delegation to the summit.
Heavy floods hit Thailand, Malaysia as thousands displaced
Heavy rainfall in Thailand and Malaysia caused devastating floods in southern Thailand and northern parts of Malaysia. So far, over 100,000 people have been displaced in Malaysia, while over 500,000 households affected in Thailand. The death toll from floods in Malaysia and Thailand rose to 12.
Parliamentary elections in Romania

Search for missing landslides victims continues in Uganda
Uganda has deployed 100 soldiers to help communities in eastern Uganda to dig through the rubble in search of bodies of victims of Wednesday’s mudslides which buried 6 villages in Bulambuli district. At least 20 bodies have been pulled out of the rubble, in the East African nation currently experiencing heavy rains.
Senegal to commemorate 80th anniversary of Thiaroye massacre
Senegal will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Thiaroye massacre. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye will lead a ceremony in the capital Dakar.
The Thiaroye massacre occurred in 1944. Between 24 and 400 West African soldiers who fought for the French forces in the Battle of France were killed by French soldiers after what they described as a mutiny over unpaid wages.
Last week, French President Emmanuel Macron, for the first time, recognized the killing of West African soldiers by the French Army in 1944 as a massacre.
