The Dominican Republic’s Embassy in Türkiye marked the 160th anniversary of the Caribbean nation’s Independence Restoration Day.
“What was Restoration? It was a popular and nationalist movement that through the Revolutionary War, the Dominicans restored its independence.
“The social base of this movement was constituted, fundamentally by peasants,” Ambassador Elvis Antonio Alam Lora said.
Attending the reception, Ceylan Ozen Erisen, the Turkish Foreign Ministry’s deputy director general for Americas, Latin America and the Caribbean, said Türkiye is committed to further deepen relations with the Dominican Republic.
“We have been enjoying excellent relations, solid friendship as well as constant dialogue. We cherish the same values of democracy, respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law.
“I would like to reiterate Türkiye's commitment to work together to further advance our relations in all possible fields,” she added.
Every Aug. 16, the country commemorates the beginning of the Dominican Restoration War in 1863.
There has been a significant development between Türkiye and Dominican Republic in bilateral relations since the opening of the Turkish Embassy in Santo Domingo in 2013.
