Dow, S&P close with record highs

Dow gains 1.5%, S&P soars 1.4%, Nasdaq jumps 1.7% this week

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Dow Jones and the S&P 500 closed with new record highs, as US stocks ended Friday in positive territory.

The Dow was up 134 points, or 0.35%, to finish the session at 38,654.42. The blue-chip index gained 1.5% this week.

The S&P 500 rose 52 points, or 1.07%, to 4,958.61. The index increased 1.4% for the week.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, jumped 267 points, or 1.74%, to end the day at 15,628.95. The tech-heavy index posted a weekly gain of 1.7%.

All three exchanges posted their fourth consecutive weekly gains.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 0.22% to 13.85. The 10-year US Treasury yield jumped 4.4% to 4.030%.

The dollar index increased 0.85% to 103.93, while the euro lost 0.76% to $1.0789 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold losing 0.8% to $2,037 per ounce and silver falling 2.2% to $22.67.

Oil prices were also on the decline, with global benchmark Brent crude trimming 1.8% to $77.29 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude falling 2.2% to $72.22.
