Egypt stunned Spain 2-1 to qualify for men's football quarterfinals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Tuesday.
Ibrahim Adel, who plays as a winger, scored a pair of goals for Egypt in a Group C match at the Bordeaux Stadium before Spain's consolation goal in the 90th minute. Spain's Samu Omorodion scored a late goal to name the result.
The Spanish national team, who have six points in three games, have already reached the knockout stage at Olympics, and will face Group D winners.
Group C winners Egypt have seven points after beating Spain and will meet Group D runners-up.
The Dominican Republic and Uzbekistan, the other Group C competitors, have been eliminated.
Group D leaders Japan secured a quarterfinal berth at Paris 2024 after two wins. Paraguay have three points. Mali and Israel, meanwhile, have one point each before their final group games.
Israel will meet Japan on Tuesday evening at Nantes' La Beaujoire Stadium.
Besides Egypt and Spain, Argentina and Morocco have reached the last eight.
