ANKARA (AA) – The 2022 English League Cup will see big clashes in the semifinal stage in January.
In two-leg semifinals, Arsenal will take on Liverpool, and another London club Chelsea will play against city rivals Tottenham Hotspur next month.
The semis in the English League Cup, also known as Carabao Cup for sponsorship reasons, have been scheduled to commence in the weeks starting on Jan. 3 and 10.
The final will be held on Feb. 27 in London's Wembley Stadium.
Chelsea on Wednesday night eliminated Brentford 2-0 with late goals in a quarterfinal match.
Pontus Jansson scored an own goal in the 80th minute, and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho converted a penalty kick successfully five minutes later to give the semifinal ticket to the Blues.
Chelsea were the 2015 Carabao Cup winners.
In another Wednesday game, Liverpool beat Leicester City 5-4 on penalties to make semis in the Carabao Cup.
The match's regular time ended 3-3, with the penalty shootout announcing the winning team.
Liverpool last won the Carabao Cup in 2012.
Meanwhile Tottenham Hotspur toppled West Ham United 2-1 at home to advance to the semifinal stage.
Steven Bergwijn drew the first blood at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, scoring the opening goal for Tottenham in the 29th minute. He made a close range finish after several passes.
Jarrod Bowen equalized three minutes later with a solo effort in the box.
Lucas Moura scored in the area as Tottenham were back in front in the 34th minute. He netted the winning goal for the Spurs.
Tottenham last claimed the Carabao Cup in 2008, which was also their last major trophy.
On Tuesday, Arsenal hammered Sunderland 5-1 in London's Emirates Stadium to reserve their place for the semis.
Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah, 22, made a hat-trick in the match.
The Gunners are craving for a Carabao Cup triumph for decades as Arsenal last added it to their trophy cabinet in 1993.
