VIENNA (AA) - The enterococcus bacteria were found in drinking water of Austrian municipalities of Mistelbach and Gaenserndorf, prompting authorities to issue warnings.
In separate statements on Tuesday, the two local governments said a high presence of the bacteria was found during routine tests, and therefore asked residents to boil water for at least three minutes before consumption.
Enterococcus can cause blood poisoning and urinary tract infections, according to experts.
