ANKARA (AA) - Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen, who collapsed during the first half of the June 12 Euro 2020 game with Finland, has thanked his fans for the well-wishes.

In a short statement released through his agent to La Gazzetta dello Sport, an Italian newspaper, on Monday, he said he is not giving up and wants to return to training as soon as possible.

Eriksen had a cardiac arrest during the 42nd minute of the Group B match at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen.

After urgent medical attention, he was hospitalized and the match was suspended. It resumed the same day at 18:30 GMT, and Finland defeated Denmark 1-0.

Fans and players all around have wished Eriksen a quick recovery.

Morten Boesen, Denmark’s team doctor, said on Sunday Eriksen “was gone” before being swiftly resuscitated on the pitch.

Coach Kasper Hjulmand said the squad had spoken to Eriksen and that it was great “to see him smile.”

The 29-year-old midfielder has 36 goals in 106 caps for Denmark.
