ISTANBUL (AA) - One of Turkey's prominent actors, Engin Altan Duzyatan, voted Friday in the photo contest hosted by Anadolu Agency.
Duzyatan voted in three photograph categories -- news, life, and sports -- taken by Anadolu Agency's photojournalists.
In the news category, Duzyatan voted for Abdullah Coskun's, 'Tough fight against coronavirus' photograph saying that it was a naive photo that very clearly summarizes the state of healthcare professionals who devote their own lives for the lives of others during the pandemic.
The actor voted for the 'Happiness of baby Muhammed', by Muhammed Said in the life category.
"I guess there is no need to say much for this photo, I think the smiling boy describes it all," he said.
Duzyatan in the sports category voted for Fecri Barlik's photograph of 'Volleyball court made of tires', where children play volleyball at a field they made of tires.
He said that children's creativity in the face of impossibilities has always impressed him.
- Anadolu Agency's high profile international photo contest
Anadolu Agency, Turkey's premier news outlet, held its first Photo of the Year contest in 2012.
This year, 76 images were selected from more than 750,000 photos from various parts of the world, including Syria, Palestine, Russia, China, and Azerbaijan.
Photos will be selected in three categories -- news, life, and sports -- from the works of Anadolu Agency photojournalists or correspondents who have had an impact on the Turkish and world agendas.
The images were shortlisted by Anadolu Agency's photo editors and are frequently used in leading media organs of the world.
The images were put to a vote in the news category with 31 entries, life with 30 entries, and sports with 15 entries.
The photos have Turkish and English captions.
Healthcare workers who are fighting COVID-19 at the frontline were the first to vote.
Also, many people from different professions, students, athletes, and politicians have already chosen their favorite photos so far in Turkey.
Last year, nearly 280,000 people took part in the voting.
This year's voting will continue through Dec. 31 at aa.com.tr/photooftheyear.
