LONDON (AA) - The EU has announced its collaboration with Jordan to co-chair a crucial meeting on "Middle East Peace," scheduled for Barcelona.
"Together with Jordanian Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, the EU will co-chair a ministerial meeting of the Union for the Mediterranean in Barcelona on Monday, 27 November," according to a statement from the office of EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.
"The security of Israel cannot be guaranteed by military means alone. For the European Union, the only path toward sustainable peace, security and prosperity for both Israel and Palestine is the two state solution," it said.
"The international community has the duty to engage seriously to make this possible. The Peace Day Effort Initiative that the EU and a number of Arab countries have launched in September at the UN sets initial steps in this direction," it added.
Meanwhile, Borrell met Lebanese Foreign Minister Bou Habib in Brussels.
"Productive meeting with Foreign Minister Bou Habib of Lebanon today in Brussels. Discussed regional developments and the importance of avoiding further escalation. EU remains committed to supporting Lebanon's stability and security," he wrote on X.
