ATHENS (AA) – The EU has condemned Monday's suspected Israeli attack on Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital city of Damascus that killed at least seven people.
“In this highly tense regional situation, it is imperative to show utmost restraint. Further escalation in the region is in no one’s interest,” a Wednesday statement by the EU External Action Service read.
"The principle of the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel must be respected in all cases and in all circumstances in accordance with international law,” it added.
Among the casualties of the strike were two generals of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brig. Gen. Mohammad Reza Zahedi, the Quds Force commander in Lebanon and Syria, and his deputy, Brig. Gen. Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.
