ISTANBUL (AA) – Construction production in the European Union (EU) fell by 2.5% year-on-year in May, according to data from Eurostat on Thursday.
Production in construction within the euro area fell by 2.4% during the same period, the data showed.
In the EU, the construction of buildings decreased by 4.8%, civil engineering by 0.8%, and specialized construction activities by 1.9%.
Sweden experienced the largest decrease in construction production, down 7.5%, followed by Slovenia with a 7.4% decline and Germany with a 7% drop.
Conversely, Hungary saw the highest increase in construction production, up 7.3%, followed by Bulgaria with a 4.4% rise and Denmark with a 1.1% increase.
In the euro area, the construction of buildings fell by 4.8%, and specialized construction activities decreased by 1.8%, while civil engineering increased by 0.4%.
Seasonally adjusted construction production fell by 0.9% month-on-month in May in the euro area and by 1% in the EU.
