SARAJEVO, Bosnia Herzegovina (AA) - The EU has decided to deploy an Election Observation Mission to monitor the parliamentary elections in Kosovo scheduled for Feb. 9, 2025.
The decision was made by European Commissioner Kaja Kallas following an invitation from Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, according to a statement.
Nathalie Loiseau, a Member of the European Parliament and the Chief Observer of the mission, said in the statement that the initiative aims to support an inclusive, credible, and transparent election process that enables voters to clearly express their preferences.
"The upcoming parliamentary elections will be the first elections to take place under a new election law that takes into account our previous proposals. I look forward to interacting with the authorities, political parties, candidates, civil society and other election stakeholders in Kosovo," Loiseau said.
The government led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who assumed office on March 22, 2021, will be the first to complete a full four-year term since Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008.
