ATHENS (AA) - The EU’s foreign policy chief on Monday emphasized on a two-state solution to the longstanding Israel-Palestine conflict.
“The solution can only be political, centered on two states,” Josep Borrell said on X, after speaking over the phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian.
Borrell said that the regional spillover of the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict should be prevented.
He added that he urged Iran to “use its influence and to actively work towards avoiding any further escalation in the region.”
The Israeli army resumed bombing the Gaza Strip early Friday after declaring an end to a weeklong humanitarian pause.
Israel launched relentless air and ground attacks on the blockaded enclave following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7.
The death toll from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has surged to more than 15,500 since the start of the conflict.
The number of wounded through the same period has risen to 41,316.
The official Israeli death toll stands at 1,200.
