ATHENS (AA) – EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis on Friday discussed regional developments at a meeting in Athens.

“We discussed the inhumane situation in Gaza & stepping-up EU support to the Palestinian Authority,” Borrell said on X following the meeting.

The parties also agreed to continue working towards de-escalation along the Lebanese-Israeli border, where hostilities have mounted amid the nearly nine-month-old Gaza conflict, with observers fearing that the Gaza war could spread.

Borrell and Gerapetritis also addressed the issues of the Western Balkans and Ukraine.

On Friday Borrell also met with Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias.

According to Dendias, global and regional challenges are concerning the EU and the union’s ongoing defense and security operations, including Operation Aspides in the Red Sea.

Dendias and Borrell on Saturday will jointly travel to the small East African nation of Djibouti, where they will visit the Greek frigate Psara, which is part of Operation Aspides.
