A meeting between EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which was planned to take place in Washington, has been canceled.

According to a statement by the spokesperson for EU foreign policy chief, Anouar El Anouni, Kallas is in Washington for official visits on Feb. 26-27.

During her visit, Kallas is set to meet with US senators and members of Congress to discuss Ukraine and transatlantic relations.

She will also meet with the EU delegation in the US.

However, Kallas' planned meeting with Rubio has been canceled due to "scheduling conflicts."

The spokesperson stated: "Due to scheduling issues, the High Representative will not meet with Secretary of State Rubio during this visit. The two last met during the Munich Security Conference."

US President Donald Trump's efforts to end the war in Ukraine through contacts with Russia, while excluding both Ukraine and the EU, had caused concern and disappointment in Brussels.

Kallas had announced on Feb. 24 during the EU foreign ministers' meeting that she would be traveling to the US to discuss Ukraine and would meet with Rubio during her visit.

Frequently advocating for the EU's involvement in peace talks, Kallas had warned that any potential "bad deal" for Ukraine to end the war would not only be detrimental to Europe but also to the US.
