BRUSSELS (AA) – Charles Michel, the President of the European Council condemned on Tuesday the attack on a dam in southern Ukraine and called it a “war crime.”
In a Twitter post, Michel said he was “shocked by the unprecedented attack” on the Nova Kakhovka dam in Ukraine.
He promised, to “hold Russia and its proxies accountable” because “the destruction of civilian infrastructure clearly qualifies as a war crime.”
Michel, who chairs EU summits, also said he would propose that EU leaders send “more assistance to the flooded areas” at their meeting on June 29-30.
Explosions at the Kakhovka hydropower plant caused floodwaters on Tuesday near Kherson.
Both Moscow and Kyiv accuse each other for the destruction of the dam.
