GENEVA (AA) - The European Commission on Monday stated that it will determine its upcoming UNRWA funding decisions in light of the outcome of an investigation into Israeli allegations.

"Humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank will continue unabated through partner organisations," a commission statement said. "Currently, no additional funding to UNRWA is foreseen until the end of February."

Tel Aviv has alleged that some of the agency’s employees were involved in the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel, the commission noted, saying that it "will review the matter in light of the outcome of the investigation announced by the UN and the actions it will take."

It also welcomed the information provided by UNRWA as well as the launch of the investigation.

Following the allegations made by Israel, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for a thorough and immediate investigation into the accusations. Guterres's call met with a self-investigation initiated by the UNRWA.

He also urged donor states to reconsider their UNRWA funding withdrawals, saying the UN agency and Palestinians in need should not be punished due to the alleged acts.

Several countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, Finland, Australia, the UK, Netherlands, the US, France, Austria and Japan, temporarily suspended financial support to UNRWA.

However, Norway, Ireland and Spain announced their continued support.
