Unemployment in the euro area rose to 6.5% in June compared to 6.4% in May, the EU's statistical office said Thursday.
The number of jobless increased 41,000 from the prior month to 11.12 million in the single currency zone, Eurostat data showed.
EU-wide unemployment, which includes countries that are in the bloc but do not use its common currency, was stable at 6% in June.
Some 13.26 million people in the EU were jobless in June, marking a hike of 52,000 from May.
A total of 2.83 million young persons (under 25) were jobless in the EU, including 2.27 million in the single currency zone.
The youth unemployment rate decreased to 14.1% in the euro area and 14.4% in the EU.
