ISTANBUL (AA) - EuroLeague announced on Friday that the 2022 Final Four will be held in Belgrade instead of Berlin.

"Euroleague Basketball and AEG agreed to postpone the holding of the Final Four in Berlin based on the current pandemic situation and health measures imposed in the German capital," a statement said.

"The decision was taken with the aim of giving EuroLeague fans the most likely opportunity to attend the event on-site while also guaranteeing the participating players access to the Final Four city. Germany health measures, if prolonged, would not allow a large number of fans to attend the Final Four and might even prevent some athletes from participating," it added.

EuroLeague said the dates have been changed, with the semifinals to be played on May 19, while the championship game will be held on May 21.

Built in 2004, Belgrade's Stark Arena will be the Final Four venue, which has a capacity of nearly 15,500 spectators.

It served as the host of the 2018 Final Four when Real Madrid lifted their 10th EuroLeague title by beating Fenerbahce Beko.
