ANKARA (AA) - The European Athletics chief Svein-Arne Hansen died on Saturday after failing to recover from a stroke he had suffered in March. He was 74.
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Svein Arne today. He was a great leader, a visionary for our sport and a charismatic personality within the athletics family," Dobromir Karamarinov, the interim president of European Athletics, said in a statement.
Svein Arne was the fifth president of the European Athletics after being first elected in 2015 and then re-elected in 2019.
