ISTANBUL (AA) - The eurozone economy expanded 0.2% in the last quarter of 2024 on a quarterly basis, exceeding market expectations of 0.1%, Eurostat announced on Friday.
On the EU side, the GDP grew 0.4% year-on-year in the October-December period versus the previous quarter.
On a yearly basis, GDP growth rates for the eurozone and the EU were 1.2% and 1.4%, respectively.
Among member countries, the highest GDP growth rate was seen in Ireland with 3.6%, followed by Denmark with 1.6%, on a quarterly basis.
On the other hand, Malta (0.7%), Austria (0.4%), Germany, and Finland (both 0.2%), and France (0.1%) posted contractions during the last quarter of 2024.
The eurozone/euro area, or EA20, represents member states that use the bloc’s single currency, the euro, while the EU27 includes all member countries.
