ANKARA (AA) - English Premier League side Everton have fired Spanish manager Rafael Benitez over poor results this season.
"Benitez, who joined Everton in June 2021, has left the Club with immediate effect," a statement read on Sunday. "An update on a permanent replacement will be made in due course."
The 61-year-old had replaced Carlo Ancelotti, but Everton failed to meet expectations under his management.
Having lost to Norwich City 2-1 on Saturday, the Toffees could only seal one victory in their last 13 league matches.
They are ranked 16th with 19 points, six points above the relegation zone.
