ROME (AA) - Former Italian goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis was injured in a traffic accident in Rome, according to media reports Wednesday.
Italy's news agency ANSA said Roma's sporting director and the former Galatasaray player was injured Tuesday night on Via Cristoforo Colombo.
De Sanctis, 43, underwent abdominal hemorrhage surgery and his spleen was removed.
He is currently in intensive care.
De Sanctis played for Galatasaray during the 2008-2009 season. The team said it is saddened about the news of the accident and wished De Sanctis a speedy recovery.
During his career, De Sanctis played for Italy's Udinese, Napoli, Roma and Spanish club Sevilla.
He also played for Monaco in France, winning the 2017 French league title before retiring later that year.
