ANKARA (AA) - At least four students were killed and another 50 injured in a suspected bomb explosion at a state university in southern Philippines on Sunday, officials and local media reported.
The explosion ripped through a gymnasium of the Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City on Sunday morning, English daily Manila Times reported, citing security officials.
The authorities are investigating the explosion at Mindanao State University, Brig. Gen. Allan Nobleza, the regional police director, told reporters.
“The military is looking into revenge as a motive by terrorist group Daulah Islamiya after 11 of its members, including their leader, were killed in an encounter in Maguindanao del Sur on Saturday,” the daily said.
Authorities said that the victims were hearing Sunday mass in the university gym when an unknown device exploded.
Police are determining the suspects and the motive for the suspected bombing.
