ANKARA (AA) - The father and coach of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) champion Khabib Nurmagomedov died Friday from the coronavirus.
Manager Ali Abdelaziz confirmed Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, 57, died at a hospital in Moscow, where he had been hospitalized since May.
Irish star Conor McGregor, archrival of the younger Nurmagomedov, offered his condolences.
"The loss of a father, a coach, and a dedicated supporter of the sport. Condolences and rest in peace Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov," McGregor said on Twitter.
Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor in Las Vegas in a 2018 UFC lightweight title fight.
