ANKARA (AA) – Istanbul-based football giants Fenerbahce beat Osmanlispor 2-0 at home in a Spor Toto Super Lig match Sunday evening to keep their title race on course.
Home team Fenerbahce took the lead in the 54th minute when Fenerbahce's French star Mathieu Valbuena took the corner and Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel scored with a header. Osmanlispor goalkeeper Zydrunas Karcemarskas caught the ball, but the referee said it crossed the goal line.
In 60th minute of the play, Fenerbahce doubled the gap as the team's Spanish striker Roberto Soldado put the ball into Osmanlispor’s net in the box.
Fenerbahce won the match 2-0 and held on to the title race in the league.
Fenerbahce, who are now in fourth place in the standings, raised their points to 54 in the Super Lig behind leaders Medipol Basaksehir with 59 points.
Besiktas are third in the standings with 56 points.
The other title contenders, Galatasaray, will try to recapture the lead when they face Genclerbirligi on Monday in the capital Ankara.
They are currently in second place in the league table with 57 points. The match in the Turkish capital starts at 8 p.m. (GMT1700).
