Fenerbahce's Brazilian midfielder Fred has suffered a thigh tendon rupture, the Turkish football powerhouse confirmed on Monday.
In a statement, Fenerbahce said that Fred, 30, a former Manchester United player, was injured during Sunday's Turkish Super Lig match against Yilport Samsunspor. Afterwards an MRI scan diagnosed him with a thigh tendon tear in his right leg.
Fred, a Fenerbahce regular who was subbed out after getting injured during the match, has started his treatment, the club added.
Fenerbahce were held to a 1-1 home draw with Samsunspor, a disappointing result for the title contenders.
Fred is expected to be out of action for at least a month.
Fred joined Fenerbahce last August from England's Manchester United.
He made six assists in 21 matches for Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce have 54 points to lead the Turkish top-flight league on goal difference, as they are battling archrivals and defending champions Galatasaray, who have the same points but scored less.
